One Last Christmas

The Christmas Season is upon us! What a wonderful message of a Savior being born. Personally I’m very thankful that I took the time to get to know my Savior Jesus and allow him to change my life from the inside out. Hope, peace, joy, and many other blessings are experienced living in the Grace that He freely gives. There are days during this time of years where many people do not experience the hope, peace and joy that He promises due to emotions that surface of those that are no longer with us here on earth. This will be the first Christmas without my earthly father being present with us. This brings a mixture of emotions that can be difficult to deal with. I

Sugar and Emotion

It’s no secret that eating too much sugar and processed foods can contribute to extreme health problems such as obesity and type II diabetes. This is common knowledge to many folks but what people do not realize is the impact of the unhealthy eating on their mental health. It is shown by the 75% overweight rate in our culture that most people do not pay attention to the impact sugar has on their bodies. With most people being creatures of habit this also gives you the answer of how much attention most people give to the impact of sugar and unhealthy eating has on their mental health. Peoples general mood and quality of life are impacted greatly by what they consume. Sweeteners, sugar, high fructose corn syrup and other sugary substitutes

Having a Fit Mind Doesn’t Happen by Accident

“As the plant springs from, and could not be without, the seed, so every act of man springs from the hidden seeds of thought, and could not have appeared without them. This applies equally to those acts called “spontaneous” and “unpremeditated” as to those which are deliberately executed. Act is the blossom of thought, and joy and suffering are its fruit; thus does a man garner in the sweet and bitter fruitage of his own husbandry.” – from As A Man Thinketh, by James Allen. James Allen The reality is we need to exercise our brains! A Fit Mind is not only academic learning but it also includes exercising our minds creatively and seeking knowledge to help us grow. There have been many generations of leaders preceding

Mental Health and Nutrition: The Missing Link

Through my journey as a mental health clinician I have come to realize the undeniable link between mental health and nutrition and the challenges that unhealthy mental and emotional relationships with food can cause. Because of that realization I have enhanced my approach to mental and emotional health to include nutritional education to assist in alleviating the challenges people face. Research has shown that “The dietary intake pattern of the general population in many Asian and American countries reflects that they are often deficient in many nutrients, especially essential vitamins, minerals, and omega-3 fatty acids. A notable feature of the diets of patients suffering from mental disorders is the severity of deficiency in these nutrients.” “The most common mental disorders that are currently prevalent in numerous countries are

What Color Are You?

CAN’T! “The inability to produce any results that are positive and forward moving!”What Color Are You? Is your mind telling you that you CAN’T today? Many people surrender to the negativity of this word before their feet even hit the floor in the mornings. “I CAN’T” excuses are some of the most lethal excuses we can have! When the negativity creeps in, our mind shuts down and limits the positive action that can take place. Does CAN’T shut you down with your kids? Your spouse? Your parents? Your job? Your school? It shows up at the most inopportune times and most likely when you are on the verge of something great! The “CAN’T” kicks you in the behind and says; Sorry, you’re not good enough! Only you

Are You Inspired?

Inspire – To influence, move, or guide by divine or supernatural inspiration (Merriam Webster – Present Day) Inspire – To infuse or suggest ideas or monitions supernaturally; to communicate divine instructions to the mind. In this manner, we suppose the prophets to have been inspired, and the Scriptures to have been composed under divine influence or direction. (1828.mshaffer.com 1828 edition of Webster’s American Dictionary of the English Language) It is interesting to me to see how definitions of words have changed over the decades. The comparison of the two above-mentioned definitions of the word inspire, shows the tolerance of which is applied to today’s culture. I believe that when we close the gap on the tolerance, we start seeing fruit in our lives that creates

BELIEVE!

A Part of My Story I have been on a journey of influence since 1995. Not in my wildest dreams would I have thought as a kid that I would be telling you that I would be an influencer. I was always the one being influenced and following the crowd to fit in. There was no way that I thought that I had enough value to influence anyone else. So I continued to live my life submitting to everyone and everything else, no matter if it were healthy or unhealthy. This past of mine created a lot of havoc. I wouldn’t have been able to step into a position of influence without embracing the past that told me that I would NOT be an influencer.
