Having a Fit Mind Doesn’t Happen by Accident

“As the plant springs from, and could not be without, the seed, so every act of man springs from the hidden seeds of thought, and could not have appeared without them. This applies equally to those acts called “spontaneous” and “unpremeditated” as to those which are deliberately executed. Act is the blossom of thought, and joy and suffering are its fruit; thus does a man garner in the sweet and bitter fruitage of his own husbandry.” – from As A Man Thinketh, by James Allen. James Allen The reality is we need to exercise our brains! A Fit Mind is not only academic learning but it also includes exercising our minds creatively and seeking knowledge to help us grow. There have been

What Color Are You?

CAN’T! – The inability to produce any results that are positive and forward moving! Is your mind telling you that you CAN’T today? Many people surrender to the negativity of this word before their feet even hit the floor in the mornings. “I CAN’T” excuses are some of the most lethal excuses we can have! When the negativity creeps in, our mind shuts down and limits the positive action that can take place. Does CAN’T shut you down with your kids? Your spouse? Your parents? Your job? Your school? It shows up at the most inopportune times and most likely when you are on the verge of something great! The “CAN’T” kicks you in the behind and says; Sorry, you’re not good

Are You Inspired?

Inspire – To influence, move, or guide by divine or supernatural inspiration (Merriam Webster – Present Day) Inspire – To infuse or suggest ideas or monitions supernaturally; to communicate divine instructions to the mind. In this manner, we suppose the prophets to have been inspired, and the Scriptures to have been composed under divine influence or direction. (1828.mshaffer.com 1828 edition of Webster’s American Dictionary of the English Language) It is interesting to me to see how definitions of words have changed over the decades. The comparison of the two above-mentioned definitions of the word inspire, shows the tolerance of which is applied to today’s culture. I believe that when we close the gap on the tolerance, we start seeing fruit

BELIEVE!

A Part of My Story I have been on a journey of influence since 1995. Not in my wildest dreams would I have thought as a kid that I would be telling you that I would be an influencer. I was always the one being influenced and following the crowd to fit in. There was no way that I thought that I had enough value to influence anyone else. So I continued to live my life submitting to everyone and everything else, no matter if it were healthy or unhealthy. This past of mine created a lot of havoc. I wouldn’t have been able to step into a position of influence without embracing the past that told me that I

T.I.M.E. with Children

Tonight I recorded a radio show with Neil Haley, “The Total Tutor” (totaltutor.net) and we talked about TIME. The audio of this broadcast will be coming soon. In the meantime, here are the points that were made in regards to TIME. – Take a Time Out of your business, chores, entertainment, media and whatever else gets in your way. Take that time to connect with your children while you still have them around to connect with them. – Invest in the relationship through hearing your child and understanding the needs they are expressing. It is important to listen in to what your child is telling you. Sometimes that is in a non-verbal way…especially if you child is younger than three years

The Reason for Christmas

When I was eight years old I remember a distinct time of searching for something to make sense to me. It was a tradition in our family to take a summer vacation to Kansas City to watch a Kansas City Royals baseball game. My grandfather was a minor league player back in the 30’s and I remember that he loved to go and watch the Royals play ball. Some of the memories of this time escape me but at some time on that trip someone had given me a bible. I remember that it was something that I held close to me on that trip and continued to hold it close once vacation was over. After returning home from the

Respond or React?

Responding or reacting, that is the question! I’m going to suggest that we do both each and every day. Responding and reacting is something that I have tossed around for quite a few years. I find that there are traits that are polarizing and cause a big separation between the meaning of the two words. So as I was sitting in a session one day I wrote out these separating factors on the whiteboard. (see the picture to the right) This list is certainly not all-inclusive; there are many things that we do when we RESPOND and there are many things that we do when we REACT! Think about when we are driving in traffic and someone cuts us off

Getting Physically Healthy!

I remember the first time in my life when weight started to become an issue. I was just out of college and I was living an out-of-control life. Part of that out-of-control life included out-of-control eating. When I jumped on the scales and I was over 200 pounds I was shocked! For my frame, that was a lot of weight. I had never weighed that much in my life. It hit me that day that I needed to start doing something about my weight. Shortly after, I went and I joined a gym. As the salesman was showing me around the gym I remembered him telling me that 13 laps around the track was a mile. The first day in
